Military Expert Explains Why Lukashenka Needs S-300 Complexes

A section of the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, a thousand kilometers long, can become “hot” at any moment.

Information has appeared that Russia is accumulating missiles for the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system in Belarus.

Oleh Katkov, military expert and editor-in-chief of Defense Express, told Channel 24 about this. According to him, we must not forget that, in addition to hot spots, Ukraine also has a cold section stretching a thousand kilometers along the Belarusian border. It can get hot at any moment.

“There is no need to panic. However, one should always remember that the threat of escalation from Belarus exists. Given all the data on the movement and concentration of missiles, there is a non-zero probability that an offensive will begin from Belarus. To do this, they can strengthen, in particular, air defense,” Oleh Katkov noted.

In addition, another exercise aimed at the aviation component and air defense was again announced in Belarus. So, they can justify a significant movement of air defense systems and aircraft.

The occupiers have repeatedly used S-300 missiles for attacks on Mykolaiv, which are generally not adapted to this. There is a threat that Lukashenka will someday try to do this in the North of Ukraine. Now the verified range of these missiles is 110-120 km.

“When the invaders first hit with these missiles, many military experts did not believe in such a distance. After all, a missile has radio command control, so the range should be exclusively along the radio horizon — up to 40 kilometers, after which the signal is lost,” the expert explained.

Katkov believes that the occupiers are launching a rocket; lead it as long as they can, and subsequently lose control of it somewhere at a height of 1 kilometer. After that, it still flies away and falls vertically down. The deflection level of such missiles is about 500 meters.

“Even in the USSR, it was considered inefficient to use S-300 missiles for ground strikes. There is a high-explosive fragmentation unit with a warhead of 160-200 kilograms maximum. It is aimed at destroying aircraft, not ground strikes. However, this is suitable for the occupiers to terrorize the population. We are constantly looking for military logic in the actions of the Russians, and they act like terrorists,” Oleh Katkov noted.
