'Lithuanian And Ukrainian Governments Betray Belarusian People With Possible Grain Transit'

Who decided to save Lukashenka's regime?

It became known that the Lukashenka regime agreed to the transit of grain from Ukraine through its territory to Lithuanian seaports. This was announced by the representative of the UN Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric. How can the Belarusian regime use this situation to lift sanctions? The Charter97.org website talked about this with the coordinator of the European Belarus Civil Campaign Dzmitry Bandarenka.

— On the one hand, Ukraine and the West are tightening sanctions against the regimes of Lukashenka and Putin, and on the other hand, they consider it possible to transit grain through Belarus. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda called the proposal of the Belarusian regime a trap, and the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Gabrielius Landsbergis considers this option "commercially possible." Why do they have such contradictory positions?

— We have seen this criminal rhetoric for many years. The Lukashenka regime exists thanks to such inconsistent and contradictory policies of the Western countries and the Ukrainian leadership, including "democrats" of all hues.

Recently it became known about a corruption scandal in the European Parliament, some were lobbying for the interests of Qatar. We know about Lord Bell and others who've been varnishing the Lukashenka regime because the criminal business has existed for many decades. People who were engaged in dirty business with Lukashenka in the leadership of Ukraine have not disappeared anywhere. He is a business partner for them.

There was no debriefing why, as reported by British think tanks, Russian troops, advancing on Kyiv, had a 12 to 1 advantage. The explanation from the leaders of the Zelensky administration and the Ukrainian special services that “the Minister of Defense of Belarus Khrenin, who deceived them, is to blame for everything” does not stand up to scrutiny.

Apparently, Western and Ukrainian businessmen and politicians want to make money in the situation of war.

The wisdom of the President of Lithuania commands respect in this situation. I hope that the decision on transit is still not final. Lithuania already had an experience lobbying Lukashenka's interests for the sake of trade relations, but it all ended with the construction of a dangerous nuclear power plant a couple of tens of kilometres from Vilnius.

I would advise Lithuanian Foreign Minister Landsbergis not to forget that the Suwalki corridor to Kaliningrad passes, among other things, through the territory of Lithuania. Vilnius shall not repeat the mistake of Ukraine, when in 2021 trade with Lukashenka reached a record level, and already at the beginning of 2022, Russian armors moved to Kyiv from the territory of Belarus. Ukraine is big and it was able to survive, but no one knows what will happen to Lithuania if it supports the co-aggressor.

— Are there possible ways for Lukashenka to circumvent sanctions by using grain transit?

— We’ve heard interesting opinions. Some "comrades" have already stated that "bread is not a sanctioned commodity". I will say that fertilizers are not among them as well. Trade in fertilizers is allowed in Russia. In this situation, Lukashenka says: “Why am I worse than Russia?” Naturally, sanctions on potash and nitrogen fertilizers and much more will be lifted. Once again, Lukashenka's regime can be saved, and the torment of the Belarusian people can last for many years.

Ukrainians understand that Putin must not receive a break now, because he will take a break and there will be a new war. It is also impossible to give a respite to the Lukashenka regime. The situation in the economy is catastrophic. What are the reasons for saving him? Saving Lukashenka's regime is beneficial for Putin.

Naturally, we are not talking about the fact that Lukashenka is a humanist and thinks about African children. He is closer in his psychotype to the Soviet serial killers like Chikatilo and Mikhasevich. I will call a spade a spade, the lifting of sanctions for transit is the same as awarding Lukashenka with an honorary diploma and a large cash prize. This is the same as awarding Chikatilo and Mikhasevich, who, by the way, were members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and strong Soviet social activists, but they raped and killed people in their free from civic activity time.

I hope that the public opinion of Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus will start to act and show the presumptuous traders that this situation is not about the children of Africa at all. There will be an attempt to lift sanctions from the entire scope of goods. We have already seen this more than once, unfortunately, in our tragic Belarusian history.

— Why is the actual lifting of sanctions welcomed by Tsikhanouskaya's office, which allegedly advocated the imposition?

— It’s just hypocrisy. Comrade Franak Viachorka rightfully said that in general grain is not a sanctioned commodity as well as fertilizers, as mentioned above. This unequivocally leads to the lifting of sanctions against Belarusian potassium, and it needs to be transported somehow, sanctions will also be lifted from oil products made from bloody Russian oil.

This is why they need Tsikhanouskaya and her office in Lithuania. On the one hand, Tsikhanouskaya is located in Vilnius, and on the other hand, Lithuania has become the main trading partner of the Lukashenka regime in the West. Everyone is happy and everyone smiles, but no one thinks about the Belarusian political prisoners and the Belarusian people in general. Let me remind you that Lukashenka recently extended the application of the death penalty to a very wide circle of people: tens of thousands of officials and the military to maintain discipline. And the leadership of Ukraine and Lithuania is making such a present for him.

It is perfectly clear that the bloody transit is a betrayal of the interests of the Belarusian people and provoking the Lukashenka regime to commit new aggression. It is ridiculous to think that this is not agreed with Putin. By the way, a few months ago there were statements by Putin's officials that it would be good to have this transit through Belarus. This is for the analysts who will start explaining that this deal opposes Moscow. Actually, it's not.
