Herasimenya Sells World Championship Golden Medal At eBay

The money will go to support free athletes.

Olympic medalist, world and European swimming champion and head of the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Fund Aliaksandra Herasimenia sold the gold medal of the 2012 World Championship in Turkey at the eBay online auction. In the final 50 meters freestyle, Aliaksandra won with a result of 23.64 seconds, setting a new national record then, tut.by writes.

The starting price of the lot was $ 3,000, but during the auction the price rose to 16,100.

By putting up a medal for sale, the athlete explained that she wants to support all Belarusians with this auction, and charge them with confidence in the absolute victory. Aliaksandra shared the story of the medal she won in 2012.

“After two silver medals at the Olympics, I was filled with anger because I knew I could do more. The motivation for winning the World Championship was incredible. I flew to Turkey with 200% confidence in my victory, as I was in excellent physical shape. Before the swim, I did not feel any fear or excitement, I just joked and smiled, and a minute later I broke my personal record, bypassed my competitors and received the nickname “Rocket”.

The black ribbon attached to the medal, it seems to me, symbolizes all victims and political prisoners in Belarus,” said Aliaksandra Herasimenia.

She plans to transfer funds from the sale of the lot to the Belarusian Sports Solidarity Fund.
