Over 20 People Died in Orsha Hospital Over Weekend

Most are from COVID-19.

Over the past weekend, 20 people died at hospital No. 1 in Orsha, 3/4 of them died from coronavirus infection. A similar situation was observed a week ago.

A Belsat.eu source at the Semashko Hospital No. 1 in Orsha said that 20 people died there over the weekend, 15 of them died from coronavirus.

“Of course, not everyone died is from the coronavirus, but the majority, 15-17 people. The information is accurate, as it was announced at the hospital at the five-minute meeting on Monday. Approximately the same amount was a week ago. Before that, the number had never risen to 20. I would like to emphasize that 20 dead is for Saturday and Sunday, and not for a day."

According to official statistics from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, over the past weekend, 29 people died from coronavirus throughout the country: 15 people - on October 2, which became the official record for Belarus, and 14 people - on October 3.

According to the source, the death rate in the Orsha hospital has increased over the past 2-3 weeks, but the deaths from the coronavirus are hardly included in the official statistics since the causes of death are heart disease and other chronic diseases.

It is reported that, due to the increase in patients with coronavirus in the hospital, some units have been reassigned exclusively to work with them.

“Currently, there are four buildings in the institution: two of them - five- and two-story - are completely dedicated to patients with COVID-19. The new 10-story building is still considered clean, but there are rumors that it will be filled with patients. Planned care at the hospital was canceled altogether. In the clean building, there are several departments together: the 8th floor is purulent and clean surgery, the 7th is gynecology and ophthalmology, the 6th is urology and pediatric surgery, the 4th is otorhinolaryngology and neurology. Previously, these departments had their own floors."

According to the source, there is another hospital in Orsha that could receive patients with coronavirus, but it is now closed.

“In the first wave of coronavirus, hospital No. 2 was opened, which was closed earlier due to uselessness, as a new building was built. It was repaired, oxygen was brought there, and in the first wave, there were patients. But then it was closed again when the coronavirus wave began to subside. Now they do not open it because they say that everything has already been stolen there, and there is no point in restoring it again.”
