Anzhalika Ahurbash: Lukashenka must leave!

He must go out to the people, apologize to them, and leave.

Honored Artist of Belarus Anzhalika Ahurbash told Narodnaya Volya why she never considered herself a singer of the authorities, why she does not miss a single protest action in Moscow, and why she comes there with a white-red-white flag.

- Anzhalika, recently, you have become one of the symbols of the Belarusian protests in Moscow. Where does this interest in politics come from? Previously, you did not express your political views.

- I believed that creative people should be outside of politics. Artists are birds of peace and kindness; we are the link that can connect the whole world, and art has no boundaries. But what is happening in Belarus today, terror and aggression, cruelty towards the Belarusian people on the part of the current government - this cannot leave indifferent any person who has even a drop of conscience, dignity, and compassion. The current situation is when it is impossible to be indifferent. I would like to somehow influence the situation and help Belarusians in their trouble.

- Was it scary when two policemen approached you near the embassy and asked you to go with them?

- I was not scared because I was on the territory of the Russian Federation. Today, I am both a citizen of Belarus and a citizen of Russia - I have a PP series passport. I knew that nothing would happen to me.

I was politely asked to go in for clarification and document verification. I explained why I had come to the action and clarified what charges they wanted to bring against me. When the police captain said that I was holding a fascist flag, I explained that this banner is our symbol, historical and cultural value, and it is exactly the same national and historical flag as the white-red-blue Russian one. The police called me the organizer of an unauthorized rally near the Belarusian embassy in Moscow. I immediately denied this information, saying that I was not a member of any party; I was not a member of any headquarters. I am an artist who has a clear civic position, and I came to support the Belarusian people. People who go out to protest should feel that the whole world is in solidarity with them. I explained to the Russian police that the Belarusian AMAP and internal troops have turned into some kind of bandit groups, committing atrocities and evil towards people. And I'm not the one who should be detained, but those who torture people. I told the police (there were fifteen of them) that today everyone should be on the protesters' side. After that, I was released. And my white-red-white flag was not taken away from me.

- Were you interviewed at the police station?

- No, the police are always on duty near the embassy during the actions, and those who take part in the action are periodically invited to check their documents. And everything happens quite correctly. It turned out that I gave a lecture to the police about what is happening in Belarus now. They did not draw up any protocols against me; they did not hold me for a long time. And I returned to those who stood at the Belarusian embassy.

- Angelica, were you a member of Belaya Rus?

- Is this an organization called the party of Aliaksandr Lukashenka? No, never! Moreover, no one has ever invited me.

By the way, a couple of weeks ago, I was told that my song "Belaya Rus" was supposedly the official anthem of this organization. If this is actually the case, then no one asked me for permission.

- You were even called the singer of the power...

- I've never been the singer of the power! I am an artist who is loved by people, including Aliaksandr Ryhoravich.

- Aren't you afraid to return to Belarus?

- I perfectly understand that, because of my clear civil position, I am in a rather dangerous position...

By the way, I will say to those who say: they say that I used to be "for," but now I'm sharply "against"... I have always been against lawlessness, terror, and aggression that are now happening in Belarus. What is happening is simply torturing the people. This is genocide.

I am not saying that all power structures behave like fascists. I know that there are decent people in the power structures, who today, in a sense, are hostages of the situation and are forced to go out into the streets against their people. But not everyone is aggressive. There are a bunch of real thugs and bandits, they cannot be called otherwise, who follow the orders of inadequate bosses.

The crippled and dead people are crimes for which it will be necessary to answer unequivocally. In Belarus, after the elections, there was an absolutely unjustified use of force, and the whole world speaks about it. Now, terror, aggression, and bullying have become so obvious that one cannot turn a blind eye to this.

And these "80 percent"... It seems to me that only one person today believes in this figure - Aliaksandr Ryhoravich Lukashenka.

- It was this figure that angered people.

- You perfectly understand that if at least 40 percent voted for him, there would be a completely different story both during the elections and after them. And there would be no need to hold a closed inauguration - if Lukashenka really won, the people would rejoice in the street, and there would be festive fireworks. And not dirty fireworks from water cannons and truncheons on the day of his inauguration. Well, what can I say about it...

Now, the most important thing is for some kind of force to stop this repressive machine, which cripples people's lives every day.

- You are quite harsh. I think if the security forces keep the situation and Lukashenka will rule the country for some time, you will hardly be invited to government concerts...

- I am least interested in my concerts now. There's no time for songs now. I am only worried about the situation in Belarus. And now is not the time to think about who will be the next president. Now, we need to stop lawlessness, aggression, and shameless attitude towards people. Look, lawyers are already being arrested! I have the impression that I see some kind of terrible, bad dream, in which there is neither sense nor logic. And every day, the situation is getting worse and worse...

- What exit do you see?

- I believe that Aliaksandr Ryhoravich must understand: he lost this election. He must accept his defeat. He must go out to the people, apologize to them, and leave. And let go of this beloved one.

After all, I know very well what the words "Don't give away your beloved" mean. What is happening now in Belarus - all this was in my family life, I now observe all the same phases. First, the pressure, which is increasing every day, then aggression, violence, and then bludgeoning with all their might to stifle freedom.

Now, in Belarus, everyone can speak and think only the way Aliaksandr Ryhoravich wants. And I have nothing to fear. I say all this with an open heart, with an open mind. I have the right to say what I think. I am not doing anything wrong.

- Some Russian stars came to Belarus for the so-called women's forum and supported Lukashenka...

- There was only one representative of Russian show business - our beloved Nikolai Baskov. I knew the day before that he would come. Until the last moment, I did not believe that Kolya would go, especially after the events before the elections, when Lukashenka's headquarters invited Russian artists to come to the rallies, and then all the artists (not only Russian, but also American) refused. Because people begged not to come and not campaign for Lukashenka's bloody regime. I know that they also wrote to Kolya - I went to his page on Instagram. And I was just sure that he would not be on this forum. When I saw him at this crazy meeting, where Lukashenka said: "I swear that the elections were fair ..." Well, this is just messed up!

I am not a little girl; I am a mother of three children; I am known and loved by people, and I can't keep silent and pretend that this is true. People are looking at me! How can I pretend that I do not see this blatant lawlessness, like many of my colleagues? Now, some cultural figures simply hid and pretend that they see nothing, know nothing. I do not blame anyone; everyone chooses his own path, his own position, and I have no right to discuss anyone, not even Kolya Baskov. It's his choice. But I do not share his position, even though I have a good attitude and love for him. But... We are all different people. You have to be condescending. But not indifferent!

- I think your support means a lot to people. For some, you do incredible things...

- My heart breaks to pieces when I see what is happening in Belarus. Now, everyone needs to unite. In my opinion, all outstanding people should clearly express their position. We, cultural figures, must stand in front of the Belarusian people and stand up against violence, aggression, repression, lawlessness, and falsifications. We must stop the lawlessness that is now happening in our beloved country.
