Lukashenka Signs New Labour Code

The new code gives employers much more grounds for dismissing employees.

The Labor Code has been amended in Belarus. Lukashenka signed the law on changes in this document today, the press service of the dictator informs.

We remind that the "parliament" started discussing the amendments to the Labor Code a year ago. And on June 26th, deputies" adopted the draft law on changing this document in the second reading. Compared to the first version of the bill, that was adopted last year, there are some innovations in the current version.

One of the changes is that employers are allowed to temporarily transfer employees to another job, including to another employer, for a period of up to 6 months per calendar year.

"In addition, the Labor Code provides that material liability will be the same for those who work under a contract and for those who work under an employment agreement," the press service of the dictator said.

The new Labor Code gives employers much more grounds for dismissing employees. These norms are taken from Lukashenko's scandalous decrees №29 and №5 (on labor discipline and the requirements for managers).

"The new Labor Code proposes an amendment that gives employers the right to dismiss an employee on their own initiative in connection with "gross, one-time violation of labor or performance discipline.

Let me remind you that the current norms of the Labor Code allow for such a situation only in case of systematic violations. That is, now it is necessary to have a violation and allow it within a year again. And from now they will dismiss you for one time violation," - Leanid Sudalenko, the legal inspector of the REP trade union in Homel region, said to the Charter97.org website.

The new Labor Code also reinforces the contract system created in Belarus under Lukashenka: a separate chapter is devoted to it.

The changes will come into force six months after the official publication of the document.
