Lukashenka is a regular trader of Belarusian sovereignty.

Member of the Seimas from the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrat Political Group Laurynas Kasčiūnas criticized Belarus for lack of sovereignty and relations with Russia. This is reported on the Conservatives' website.

Addressing Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, Kasčiūnas states that "sovereign Belarus" is essential for Vilnius. According to him, Belarus is now dependent on Russia, so it's very difficult to maintain a dialogue with it.

"This is a politician (Lukashenka - note of Charter97.org), who in exchange for maintaining his political regime and personal security guarantees regularly trades in Belarusian sovereignty and uses any political flirtation with the West only as a lever for his relations with the Kremlin," - he says.

According to the politician, Lukashenka is "a Russian governor".

Kasčiūnas says that the first priority for Vilnius is to prevent the launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. According to the parliamentarian, this can only be achieved through the creation of a regional block that would refuse to buy electricity from BelNPP, and through the diplomatic efforts of Lithuania, which will tie all the tools of cooperation with the EU useful for Minsk with the issue of the Astravets station.

"The long-term goal of Lithuania is a sovereign and democratic Belarus, which is essentially possible only if Belarus "eventuates" as a national state that would consider itself part of the European civilization. And Lithuania can contribute to this: by supporting projects of common (European) historical memory, strengthening cooperation with civil society and the Belarusian democratic opposition," - he says.
