It was a complete surprise for the political prisoner.

"The prosecutor withdrew the appeal, which was filed against the sentence of Minsk City Court," - Dzmitry Paliyenka told Palitviazni.info.

We remind that Dzmitry Paliyenka was found guilty of "particularly malignant hooliganism" and sentenced to three years of house arrest (restriction of liberty without being sent to a correctional facility). Dzmitry's term was reduced for a year under the amnesty, but he was sentenced to compulsory treatment of alcoholism.

A week ago, it became known that Minsk prosecutor's office appealed the decision of Minsk city court to the Supreme Court. It was stated in the appeal that the sentence against Paliyenka "is illegal and must be changed due to the inconsistency of the court's sentence with the severity of the crime".

"Today, on November 19th, I received a letter from Minsk City Court," - Dzmitry Paliyenka states.

The letter says that "on 11.11.2019, the state prosecutor - senior prosecutor of the Minsk city prosecutor's office, A. Karol, withdrew his appeal, which was filed on 4.11.2019 against the sentence of Minsk City Court of 25.10.2019 in a criminal case on charges against Dzmitry Paliyenka for a crime under Part 3 of Article 339 of the Criminal Code ".

Dzmitry Paliyenka notes that such a turn of events is a complete surprise for him.

"I don't understand one thing: "If the prosecutor has just withdrawn the protest, why did he file it at all?" - the activist is puzzled.
