Former Amkador Head: To Get Insight Into Tragedy, It's Enough To Come To District Centers
VASIL SHLYNDZIKAU

Industry and production practically do not exist there.

At the Kastrychnitski Economic Forum 2019, Turchyn said that all the state-owned enterprises of the first hundred largest companies are "alive", and we just need to put the shoulders under some of them - but we don't need to close any of them.

But the former head of the Amkador concern, Vasil Shlyndzikau, does not share this optimism, Salidarnasts writes.

- Frankly speaking, our enterprises, including the largest ones, are slowly degrading. For a long time, the flagships have had problems as well: the car plant and tractor plant. The current system does not allow to improve, modernize and reconstruct them successfully, - the former head of the Amkador concern said in the commentary.

So what to do with public sector enterprises?

- There should be a separate recipe for everyone. But if we talk in general, we need to change the economic policy - and therefore, the government. As we can see, the current regime is not taking any action, and the degradation of enterprises will continue, - Shlyndzikau said.

How long can state enterprises stay afloat?

- It depends on how long and to what extent the state will be able to make investments in them, saving them from death. Some of them may survive five years, some of them more. But if the economic policy does not change, the majority will come to one result - bankruptcy, - Shlyndzikau said.

According to First Deputy Prime Minister, the Belarusian authorities are not counting on the IMF loan. On the other hand, the next five-year plan should be digital both by name and by spirit, Turchyn believes.

Will it be possible to ensure sufficient economic growth only at the expense of the IT sector? The former head of the Amkador concern gave a negative answer to this question.

- To get an idea of the tragedy that is happening in Belarus, it's enough to go to the district centers. Industry and production practically do not exist there. It awaits us in major cities as well, if we continue the same policy, - Shlyndzikau noted.
