Vintsuk Viachorka: Blocking Independent Site Is Crime

Belarusian authorities are afraid of free dissemination of information.

Vintsuk Viachorka, a participant of the organizing committee of the Belaruski Rukh, the former chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party, stated that commenting on the blocking of the Charter97.org site:

– I advocate freedom of speech and believe that blocking an independent information resource that does not propagate any anti-human ideologies is a crime on the part of those who do it.

Since Charter-97 is a popular resource in Belarus, and not only in Belarus, its blocking means the authorities' fear of free information dissemination.

I want to note that any weakening of the independent resources, created by the Belarusians, leads to the strengthening of the positions of non-Belarusian resources – in this case Russian and pro-Russian ones.

It's hard to say what motives have predetermined the blocking of the access to the site by the Belarusian authorities right now, but this could mean a signal to launch an attack on the information space of Belarus and the move toward Russia.

I do not want to read coffee grounds, but as soon as the access to the website with stable and unfailing audience has been blocked in Belarus, the authorities' attempts to demonstrate some kind of "liberalization" have failed. And the belief that this regime can change somehow, will soon evaporate all over.
