Independence Day Of Belarus

On 27 July, the Supreme Soviet adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty.

On 27 July 1990, the Supreme Soviet of Belarus adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty. This important document for our state became the first official step towards the independence of Belarus.

The Declaration of State Sovereignty proclaimed "the full state sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus as the supremacy, independence and completeness of the state power of the Republic within the borders of its territory, the legitimacy of its laws, the independence of the Republic in foreign relations".

On that day the new history of our country began.

27 July was declared the Independence Day of Belarus.

On 25 August 1991, the Declaration of State Sovereignty received the status of a constitutional law, on the basis of which adjustments and amendments were made to the Constitution of 1978. The new Constitution of the Republic of Belarus was adopted on 15 March 1994.

The official authorities cancelled the holiday after the 1996 "referendum", which gave Lukashenka unlimited powers. Independence Day is now celebrated on the anniversary of the liberation of Minsk from the Nazi invaders on 3 July. The democratic society still celebrates Independence Day on 27 July.

Happy holiday, friends!
