The famous Kurapaty defender Dzianis Urbanovich became the chairman.

Dzianis Urbanovich, one of the most active participants in the defense of Kurapaty, became the new Young Front chairman. According to Belsat, Dzmitry Dashkevich announced this on social networks.

Dzianis Urbanovich became a famous figure of civil society only this year, thanks to his participation in the defense of Kurapaty. The activist was detained several times and brought to administrative responsibility.

Dzianis Urbanovich is a native of Lahoisk. In 2015, he was arrested and served 2 years for a protest, which he and his younger brother organized at the polling station during the “presidential campaign.”

“I jumped onto the polling station's roof, dropped the flag, broke the information board telling about the candidate Lukashenka. And I wrote “For transparent elections” with a marker on the election poster. Well, it so happened that when I was dropping the flag, I tore it along the ornament line – you know, it was just uncomfortable there, I was afraid to fall. The next day, October 3, we were all detained and brought to the Lahoisk District Police Department,” – Urbanovich said earlier.

The police detained Dzianis Urbanovich and his brother Maksim (they were together at the polling station). A criminal case was initiated under Art. 370 and parts 1 and 2 of Art. 339 of the Criminal Code. As a result, Dzianis was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment, his brother to 1.5 years of imprisonment. The Urbanovich brothers served their prison sentences in full. After the release, Dzianis was placed under a preventive supervision, as a person allegedly “prone to extremism.”

“It started back in the colony when I demanded a prisoner's tag in the Belarusian language,” – the activist explained his “reputation.”

In June, Urbanovich told that he had joined BSDP Narodnaya Hramada headed by Mikalai Statkevich.
