Journalist Daniil Polyansky Was Accused Of "high Treason"

The case against freelance journalist Daniel Polyanski was considered by Brest Regional Court. The trial began in mid-July and was held in closed mode. The sentence was pronounced on July 25, writes BAJ .

After several sessions, Brest Regional Court found Daniel Polyanski guilty of "treason against the state" (under Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of Belarus) and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment.

In addition, the court imposed a fine in favor of the state in the amount of 500 basic units - currently Br21,000. Due to the "classified" nature of the trial, the essence of the charges against the journalist remains unknown.

The freelance journalist was detained, most likely, on September 19, 2024, after returning home from Russia. The exact date is unknown, but he later lost contact with him.

Daniil Polyansky is 54 years old. As a videographer, he once worked with state and commercial TV channels, as well as independent regional websites. In recent years he was known in Brest as a volunteer of the search and rescue squad "Angel".
