The junta got nothing in return.

The release of several hostages by the Lukashenka regime at the ‘request’ of the new US administration is indicative in itself.

The junta received nothing in return. Only a promise not to make things worse. It is a good deal when it could not be worse. Especially when the two sides are asking for it at the same time.

As we wrote earlier, we need channels of communication with the West. However, the room for manoeuvre is extremely limited. And if we are talking about interaction with the United States, it is under the close guardianship of big brother from the Kremlin.

The junta will be looking for opportunities to get some independence in this matter. Or at least ‘sell’ the fact of contacts with the US to the Europeans.
