Putin Is Going To Flee To North Korea?

The head of the Russian Federation is building an elite mansion there.

North Korea is urgently building three luxury mansions at once at the Kumsusan guest complex in Pyongyang. Each of the mansions covers about 13,000 square meters. An analysis of satellite images by NK news shows that the facilities are being prepared to host high-ranking foreign leaders in the coming months. In parallel with the construction of the mansions, work is underway on a new cemetery and museum nearby - in memory of North Korean servicemen killed in the war against Ukraine.

Satellites show very rapid progress since the project kicked off in late October 2025, when a major work camp appeared. Planet Labs images show that by mid-November, the foundations of the three new mansions were complete and several floors of buildings, as well as support facilities, had already been erected. This indicates that DPRK authorities view the project as a priority.

Pyongyang has not officially announced any upcoming visits by foreign leaders to meet with Kim Jong-un. Vladimir Putin is considered a likely candidate for the new residence because of the two countries' increased ties amid the war in Ukraine, NK News reported. Their last face-to-face meeting took place in September 2025 in Beijing at a military parade.

Another possible guests at Kumsusan Palace include Chinese leader Si Jinping and US President Donald Trump. The latter offered to come to the DPRK in October to discuss sanctions - just as construction work was beginning. However, Kim has not publicly responded to the offer.

The residences are comparable to two existing residences built in 2019 specifically for Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit. Back then, construction was completed in just four months, from foundation laying to full occupancy. Last time, the rapid pace and scale of the work indicated that the residences were also created urgently - just for the Chinese leader's visit. This complex of buildings was then used to host high-ranking Russian officials in 2024-2025 - Sergei Shoigu, Andrei Belousov and Dmitry Medvedev.
