Lithuania Calls To Put Pressure On Lukashenko Through The U.S.

Vilnius may turn to Washington for help.

Due to the closed borders with Belarus, trucks of Lithuanian carriers are stuck in that country. Opposition conservative leader Laurynas Kasciunas is urging the government to seek help from the United States, LRT reports.

He says Washington and Minsk have recently been trying to normalize relations, and this could benefit Lithuania as well.

"We need to do everything possible to make this, let's say, process of warming relations - maybe I'm speaking a bit loudly - but the attempt to open a new What does that mean? First of all - return the trucks, secondly - stop the balloons," the parliamentarian said on Friday on Žinių radijas.

"The Americans have the necessary leverage, have enough power and certainly diplomatic opportunities for negotiations. This is the task of our diplomacy," he added.

Reminder, Lithuania closed the border with Belarus until November 30 because of a flight of weather probes from Belarus, which hindered the work of airports. The border crossing point "Šalčininkai" is not fully operational; certain categories of people, including holders of Lithuanian residence permits, can return through "Miadininkai".
