The woman smuggled the parts from the U.S. to Russia.
Belarusian citizen was extradited from France to the United States on the case of smuggling, export control violations and money laundering against the U.S. government. This is reported by the press service of the U.S. Department of Justice, reports "Interfax".
"Using accomplices located in the U.S., (the woman - ed.) acquired and illegally exported numerous copies of avionics and other aviation equipment from the U.S. to Russia," reads the indictment.
The investigation involved the U.S. Attorney's Office of the District of Columbia with the participation of the U.S. Department of Justice, the FBI and the Bureau of Industry and Security. Law enforcers allege that the Belarusian woman, with the help of companies based in Armenia, the Maldives and elsewhere, diverted components to Russia without the necessary licenses from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The scheme was carried out in order to conceal the identity of the final recipient in the country. In addition, according to the investigation, the defendants concealed and distorted the final purpose of deliveries and real destinations, providing false documents.
September 11, representative of the U.S. President John Cole said that Washington lifted sanctions against Belavia, which had been in force since April 2022.
