Nancy Pelosi Has Announced The End Of Her Career In The U.S. Congress

The Democrat will not run for another term.

The first and only female speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, 85-year-old Nancy Pelosi has announced that she will not run for another term, CNN reported Thursday, Nov. 6.

Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco for nearly 40 years, announced her decision Nov. 6.

She was elected for the first time in 1987 after her public service in California, where she worked for nearly four decades.

"I will not run for re-election to Congress. My message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, realize your power. We have made history. We have made progress. We have always been leaders," she said.

Pelosi was the first woman to serve as House speaker and longtime leader of the Democratic Party caucus.
