He became the 46th vice president, serving two terms from 2001 to 2009 in the administration of George W. Bush Jr.

Cheney belonged to the conservative wing of the Republican Party, but was sharply critical of the figure of current President Donald Trump.

In the presidential election, he publicly supported Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
