Lithuanian Interior Minister Suggested That Carriers Should Protest In Belarus

Linava wants to hold actions in Lithuania and Brussels.

While the Lithuanian Road Carriers Association Linava is considering holding protests in Lithuania and Brussels, Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovich believes that a more logical step would be to hold them in Belarus, which does not release lorries, writes Delfi.

"Belarus is closing down, but we are protesting in Lithuania. I think they could protest in Belarus as well. It's not us who don't let them out, but Belarusians don't let them out, so protesting there would be a logical and correct step for them. (...) Of course, I might be exaggerating a bit, but we should look at all the problems at the same time. We must not forget that these are our Lithuanian enterprises and we must see to it that they return their property - the trucks and semi-trailers," Kondratovich told reporters on Wednesday.

Talking about the current situation, he noted that Lithuania could offer Belarus to organize a meeting of border guards of both countries, since, according to Kondratovich, more positive signals are noticeable from the side of the state carrying out the hybrid attack.

"They (Belarus) say they offer to meet and talk about it (about opening an evacuation corridor on the border of Lithuania and Belarus). For our part, we believe that we also have certain ways in which we can try to resolve the situation on a non-political level - perhaps we will propose a meeting at the level of border guards to discuss these issues. As for the border, it seems that we already see certain movements on the part of Belarus," assured the head of the Interior Ministry.

In response to the situation with smuggled weather probes, which cause disruptions in the work of Vilnius airport, a few weeks ago, the Lithuanian government decided to close the last checkpoints on the border with Belarus - "Miadininkai" and "Shalcininkai" - for a month, until midnight on November 30. Traffic through the border crossing point "Šalčininkai" is completely suspended, while the activity of the border crossing point "Miadininkai" is limited with some exceptions.
