The SBU Foiled A Series Of Terrorist Attacks In Kiev

The Russian FSB was preparing explosions in the subway and shopping malls.

The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented a large-scale attempt by Russian special services to carry out a series of terrorist attacks in the capital.

According to the investigation, the FSB was preparing explosions in the Kiev subway and large shopping and entertainment centers, as well as contract killings of famous Ukrainians.

Counterintelligence officers found that the organizer of the crimes was a resident of temporarily occupied Crimea, who after 2014 began working for the FSB. He recruited "like-minded people" among his acquaintances, in particular Ukrainian citizens who were not subject to mobilization.

One of the recruited agents arrived in Kiev via third countries. There he had to find a cache of weapons, a Makarov pistol, and carry out a contract killing of a well-known media personality.

In addition, the agent was tasked with preparing terrorist attacks in several shopping malls in the capital and at one of the subway stations. For this purpose, he received instructions to create improvised explosive devices equipped with cell phones for remote detonation during rush hour.

The goal of the sabotage is to sow panic among Kiev citizens and destabilize the situation in the capital.

Thanks to the prompt actions of the SBU, the agent was exposed before he implemented the criminal plan. Investigators documented all his contacts with his handler from Crimea.

The FSB president has already been reported on suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

State treason (part 2 of Art. 111),

terrorist act (part 2 of Art. 258),

illegal handling of weapons (part 1 of Art. 263).

Since the defendant is in the temporarily occupied territory, measures to bring him to justice continue. The investigation also identifies other participants of the FSB agent network.
