Ex-Polish Counterintelligence Officer: KGB Recruited Melnikova Back In Belarus
Angelika Melnikova

She was given specific assignments.

Missing on March 25, 2025, the speaker of the so-called "coordination council" of Belarus Anjelika Melnikova could have been recruited by Lukashenko's special services back in Belarus. This opinion was expressed on the air of TVP by retired major of counterintelligence of the Internal Security Agency of Poland, a member of the Faculty of International Relations of the University of Bialystok Anna Grabowska-Siwiec.

The former officer drew attention to Melnikova's husband, who moved freely between Poland and Belarus:

-Belarusian special services recruit under pressure, the question remains what role he played. I think that her husband was in the field of vision of special services.

I believe that Melnikova was recruited in Belarus, trained, very specific tasks were set. And she realized these tasks on the territory of Poland. The relationship with her husband was a form of communication with the special services, a legend, because they had a relationship. It fits perfectly into the modus operandi, i.e. the way intelligence functions and perfectly legendizes this contact.

Transferring money, tasks, additional information - all this could be transferred by her husband. I think this project was conceived before she left Belarus.

The story of deteriorating health and burnout, according to a former Polish counterintelligence officer, could have been invented to cover up:

-That we accuse our agent of a crime and provoke a situation in which he runs away, is lost somewhere without a trace with this money - this is a perfect legend, very popular with intelligence services. So, in my opinion, everything is working out perfectly here.

It is true that Melnikova could have told someone about her assignment, or she could have failed mentally and physically. There is some question as to whether she was truly in crisis, or whether she was told to play it off. However, it is not that important, because she started acting strangely. Note that she started acting strangely only before leaving Poland, no one paid attention to it before. She was only praised.

Anna Grabowska-Sivets also commented on Melnikova's meetings with a member of the Belarusian special services Alexei Lobeev in Cuba:

- Whether she went there for meetings or to receive and transmit information. It's a classic of the intelligence services. We train our agents and meet with them on the territory of third countries.

We recall that Speaker Anzhelika Melnikova disappeared along with 150 thousand euros allocated for the work of the "coordination council" on March 25. Then investigative journalists reported about her contacts with agents of Belarusian intelligence and trips to Cuba, Sri Lanka and the UAE.
