Belarusian Services Allowed A Heavily Intoxicated Tractor Driver To Cross The Border

He was detained on the Lithuanian side.

A heavily intoxicated driver of a truck with wheat for beer production, traveling from Belarus, was detained at the border crossing point Miadininkai, reported the State Border Guard Service (SOGS) of Lithuania on October 4.

According to the agency, it happened on October 2. When the driver of a MAN tractor-trailer - a 56-year-old citizen of Moldova - presented his documents, the border guards suspected that he was drunk: "He had a strong odor of alcohol, his speech was slurred and his movements were uncoordinated".

The man was tested with a breathalyzer. The device showed severe intoxication - 2.58 ppm of breath alcohol (corresponding to 2.58 grams of pure alcohol per liter of blood). SOGG noted that "in Lithuania, such a condition is a criminal offense".

"The heavily intoxicated truck driver should have been checked by Belarusian border guards at the Kamenny Loh checkpoint, located in front of Miadininkai checkpoint, before entering Lithuania," SOGG noted.

The driver and the vehicle were reportedly handed over to the police for further investigation.
