Dispatchers stopped all takeoffs and landings.
Munich International Airport has been forced to suspend operations for the second night in a row due to reports of drones near the runways. The situation has led to massive delays and redirected flights.
This is reported by BILD.
On Friday night, Germany's air traffic was again jeopardized. At 9:28 p.m., air traffic controllers stopped all takeoffs and landings at Munich airport after a drone warning. According to the federal police, "security is paramount," so the decision was made to temporarily block flights.
Police work
All Munich police forces are involved in the operation. Officers are checking signals of possible drones and conducting searches. It is not yet known how long the flight ban will last, but the measures are attributed to the need to prevent risks to passengers and crews.
The airport's official website notes: "On the evening of October 3, German air traffic control (DFS) restricted flights at Munich Airport due to unconfirmed drone sightings and suspended them until further notice."
Affects on passengers
According to Flightradar24, 17 flights were diverted Friday evening. A day earlier, a similar situation also disrupted the work of the air harbor: about 3,000 passengers spent the night in the terminal, accommodated on cots and benches.
In the evening of October 2, unidentified drones were detected near Munich International Airport. In connection with this, the work of the airport was suspended. Late Thursday night, the airport was closed and the runways were rendered unavailable for use for security reasons.
