Contrary to analysts' expectations.
The French National Statistics Office (INSEE) reported an acceleration in the growth of the national economy in the third quarter to 0.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
The main drivers were exports, which increased by 2.2 percent, and corporate investment - plus 0.9 percent. Below average was the growth of consumer spending (0.1 percent), imports fell by 0.4 percent.
In the second quarter, GDP growth was only 0.3 percent, while analysts expected the result of the third quarter to be even worse - 0.2 percent. Experts said the strong results could reduce political tensions in the country, which led to the renewal of the government in the fall.
