Russian Planes Flew Into Lithuania

NATO aviation was taken to the skies.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said Russia violated airspace, according to Delfi.

"Tonight Russian warplanes violated Lithuanian airspace. This is a blatant violation of international law and Lithuania's territorial integrity. It once again confirms the importance of strengthening the readiness of European air defense," the Lithuanian president said in X.

He said the country's Foreign Ministry will summon representatives of the Russian embassy to protest "against reckless and dangerous behavior."

Lithuanian Defense Ministry specified that the country's Air Force on Thursday evening recorded a violation of the state border near the town of Kibartai on the border with the Kaliningrad region.

"A Russian Su-30 aircraft and an Il-78 refueling aircraft entered the territory of Lithuania at about 700 meters and, after staying in Lithuanian airspace for about 18 seconds, left it," the statement said.

Two Spanish Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets on a NATO airspace patrol mission were put into the air, currently continuing their patrols, the defense ministry said.
