The President of the United States made a controversial statement.
American President Donald Trump expressed hope that Ukraine will not need Tomahawk missiles. He said this in a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.
Trump noted that the U.S. needs the Tomahawk, as well as many other weapons it is sending to Ukraine.
"One of the reasons we're looking to simplify this process is that we're talking about a huge number of very powerful weapons. So that's one of the issues that we will be discussing. Hopefully, the need for them will not arise. I hope we can end the war without even thinking about using Tomahawks," Trump said.
Zelensky called the conflict technological and said that "we need other means - lots of drones." He also suggested Trump work together and jointly produce drones.
"We have a lot of different weapons. We need to make sure the country is fully equipped. We would prefer that Ukraine doesn't need Tomahawks so that we finish the war," Trump said, responding that the United States would be interested in exchanging Tomahawk for drones.
Zelensky, for his part, named the targets of strikes in the Tomahawk transfer to Ukraine. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will strike only military targets with Tomahawk missiles.
