Moldovan President: Moscow Has Not Abandoned Plans To Destabilize The Country

Sandu warned that Russia is looking for new methods of pressure and wants to derail the country's course towards Europe.

Moldovan President Maya Sandu has warned that Russia will seek new methods to influence the country in order to destabilize the situation.

The Moldovan president's statement is Deschide.

Sandu noted that Russia wants to use Moldova against Ukraine, which is why it launched hybrid attacks on our democracy.

"Moscow's strategy was systematic, tested in local and regional elections, reaching a culmination in the parliamentary elections this year," she said. However, the real goal was this year's parliamentary elections," Sandu emphasized.

As a result, she said, Moldovan citizens, supported by institutions, civil society and a free press, defended the right to choose. They voted for democracy, for Europe and for peace.

"But let's be honest: the victory is temporary, it is a window to strengthen sustainability and accelerate European integration. Russia will seek new methods and goals. If authoritarian regimes adapt faster than democracy, freedom will be lost," she said.

Sandu emphasized the need to restore citizens' confidence "that democracy is not a weakness, but a strength that must be defended every day with participation, vigilance and courage."

"Moldova is ready to share its experience, successes, mistakes and ongoing struggle with any democracy that faces similar dangers. Because the defense of democracy today is not a national, but a collective project," the president concluded.
