ISW: Lukashenko May Be Preparing Sabotage Against Poland

To blame Ukraine.

Russia and Lukashenko's regime may be preparing sabotage in Poland and planning to blame Ukraine. This is said in a September 30 report by the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

The ISW noted that on September 30, Russia's foreign intelligence service unsubstantiatedly claimed that Ukraine was allegedly preparing for a false flag attack against critical Polish infrastructure in order to blame Russia and Belarus.

The Russians' version is that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry (GUR), together with Polish intelligence, will send a sabotage and reconnaissance group to Poland, which will include Russian and Belarusian citizens from the Freedom of Russia Legion and Kastus Kalinovsky's regiment. There, it is claimed, Ukraine could simultaneously carry out an "attack" on critical facilities.

Russian intelligence claims that the saboteurs captured by Polish security forces will then be presented as Russian and Belarusian special forces at a press conference.

In the opinion of ISW analysts, the publication of such a statement could have been initiated by the Kremlin to absolve itself of responsibility for possible future Russian and Belarusian sabotage operations against Poland in advance.

The Institute notes that the Kremlin often uses the Foreign Intelligence Service to disseminate unsubstantiated claims of impending attacks as part of disinformation campaigns designed to weaken support for Ukraine and sow doubts about the nature of Russia's provocations against NATO member states.
