Lukashenko Has Ruined Another Sector Of The Belarusian Economy

Failure in biopharmaceuticals.

The import-substituting production of veterinary and medicines will be organized on the basis of Belvetunipharm LLC.

Anyhow, the decree on this investment project was signed by Alexander Lukashenko in order to "further develop the biopharmaceutical industry in the country," writes "Salidarnasts".

It's interesting in this story that the previous investment project at Belvetunipharm was realized relatively recently - and it failed miserably.

Reminder: it was on the premises of the enterprise in the village Dolzha, Vitebsk voblast, that a plant for the production of domestic coronavirus vaccine "BelKovidVak" was to be built in 2021-2023. The decree on the allocation of funds was signed by - guess who. It was about reconstruction, construction of a new workshop and production of millions of doses of vaccine.

In fact, by 2024, one workshop was modernized, the framework of a new building was built, but then the money ran out and the project was suspended. The domestic vaccine itself, as the medical community "White Coats" has repeatedly told us, also turned out to be Schrodinger's cat - a drug with questionable efficacy, which was never put into production.

In the meantime, about 30 million dollars was invested in the plant - in fact, burying this money in the ground. The former general director of the company, Sergei Bolshakov, was sentenced to a fine of 3,000 basic units and 4 years in prison for embezzlement, though with a suspended sentence.

Lukashenko himself in August 2025 at the meeting on the development of biopharmaceuticals was demonstratively indignant: how is it that the budget money was spent and nothing was done, expensive equipment is idle, and who will be responsible for it?

At the end of the day, another decree of the ruler was born: BelVitunipharm will be released from non-core assets and transferred into municipal ownership. The investor will be granted land plots and equipment for lease, temporary or permanent use - as a result, a new import-substituting production of veterinary and medical medicines should be created.

In addition, within two years after the completion of the investment project, the enterprise will be able to sell products with the certificate of its own production through a single-source procurement procedure.

As they say, the legend is fresh.
