The National Bank is alarmed.
Since the beginning of the year Belarusians have taken loans from banks for almost Br10.6 billion. The total debt continues to break records - in September it exceeded Br28.5 billion. This follows from data of the National Bank.
In August, banks issued loans to the population for Br1.33 billion. In total, almost Br10.6 billion of loans were issued for eight months, which is 1.3% more than last year.
The main part was consumer loans - Br8.34 billion (an increase of 3.6%), while loans for the purchase of real estate decreased by 10.3% and amounted to Br2.25 billion.
The population's debt increased by Br308.7 million in August and amounted to Br28.5 billion by September 1. This is 24.4% more than a year ago. Of them:
Br11.27 billion in consumer loans (29.1% growth),
Br17.03 billion in housing loans (13.5% growth).
Reminder, the National Bank has repeatedly expressed concern about the credit activity of Belarusians.
In April, the regulator urged commercial banks to switch to business loans and not so actively issue consumer loans to the population.
Experts, meanwhile, point to distortions in the economy, including hidden inflation, and see prerequisites for the weakening of the national currency.
