About 300 internal virtual machines were wiped.
November 10, the pro-Ukrainian hacker group of Dump Forums announced the hacking of the electronic invoice portal (EIP), which is the official resource of the Ministry of Taxes and Levies of the Republic of Belarus. The hackers explained their actions by saying that they ‘have not forgotten about those who support the Russian Federation in its unjust and destructive war against Ukraine’:
‘We attacked and completely destroyed the infrastructure of the state resource ‘Electronic Invoices’. Our team carried out a targeted operation to delete critical data and virtual machines, which entailed a complete disruption of the state service.’
According to the hackers, they managed to offload citizens' databases containing personal information, destroy websites, internal documents and workflow files, without which the work of departments, albeit temporarily, will be paralysed. About 300 internal virtual machines were wiped out, the information claims.
At the time of the post, the portal was indeed down. As of the morning of November 11, the home page is available, but when you click on the ‘Start Working’ button, the page does not load.
The portal is designed to automate the process of creating, sending, receiving and storing electronic value added tax (VAT) invoices. On July 1, 2016, the use of EIP became mandatory for all VAT payers in Belarus.
‘We have hacked many large and medium-sized companies, as well as state bodies in Belarus. This action is just a reminder: anyone who supports aggression against Ukraine should realise that they will not be able to go unpunished,’ Dump Forums said.
