Roman Svitan: Putin Makes Legitimate Target For Ukrainian Drones
COLLAGE: FOCUS.UA

There were many more strikes on military targets in the area of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Unknown drones began to appear near Moscow airports. One of the drones was seen dangerously close to the aircraft of the Pobeda airline.

What could this UAV be?

The website Charter97.org addressed this question to Reserve Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pilot-instructor Roman Svitan.

— In fact, it could be our Ukrainian UJ-22 drones. We have a lot of these multifunctional UAVs. These drones can carry reconnaissance equipment, video cameras under control. And they can fly in, shoot and fly back. Their combat radius is about 800 kilometers. Such a drone can go, say, to Moscow, shoot everything, and come back.

It is worth noting that it can carry about 20 kg of explosives if it needs to defeat military targets. Therefore, there is a possibility that these were Ukrainian reconnaissance or strike reconnaissance drones. Let's look at the development of events. I think that in the next few weeks it will become clear why they fly there.

— If earlier drones appeared in the Kursk and Belgorod regions, now they are noticed in Moscow and St. Petersburg. What does it testify to?

— Ukrainian troops have drones with a large combat radius. We used to have drones with a range of about 150 kilometers. So they worked in five regions of Russia bordering Ukraine: Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh and Rostov.

If earlier we got 150 km, now we have drones with a combat radius of 750-800 km. This means that the range in one direction is up to 1,500 km without a return. We strike and we will strike.

The fact is that there are a lot of real reports of attacks on Russian military facilities in the Balashikha region (near Moscow), near St. Petersburg. These strikes are not very visible in the Russian information space, because the Russian army hides them. Attacks of this level are not highlighted.

It's just that there is indirect evidence that we are striking at Russian military targets. I emphasize, we will continue to strike. Including with the help of these drones.

— The German publication Bild wrote that the UAV that fell in the Moscow region was preparing to kill Putin. What major operations can Ukrainian drones perform?

— I repeat, the drone I was talking about, the UJ-22, can carry around 20 kg of explosives. 20 kg of explosives can definitely kill a platoon of soldiers. If it hits, say, an ammunition depot or an oil storage facility, it can destroy them. Cause a lot of damage.

It is clear that if the task is to destroy a particular military facility, then it will definitely destroy it. This drone has direct control of the aircraft type.

As for Putin, he is the supreme commander in chief. This is the highest military rank, which in itself is a legitimate military objective. Therefore, there may be such a development of events.

— Ukraine has announced a reward for a drone that will land on Red Square. Is such a task possible for Ukrainian UAVs?

— Since they already reach Balashikha, then it’s definitely within their capacity. A drone under direct control will certainly fly to Red Square. Maybe some people will take it up. It doesn't have to be Ukrainians. There may be Russians who simply covet certain financial rewards and are not afraid of the FSB. There is a twofold approach here.

The fact is that our Armed Forces certainly will not “just sit”. Destroying a military facility is a task, but everything else is more like a show. Nevertheless, a good show that will test the work of Russian air defense in protecting the capital.

— Today, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine said that in a global sense, Ukraine is ready for the previously announced counteroffensive. When do you think it will start?

— In the broad sense, we are ready, but the weather is not yet ready to please us. It will rain until at least early next week. Then it should dry up for another week so that heavy equipment can go.

The fact that we are technically ready is understandable, but the drying surface will not be ready until May 5-7.
