Large-Scale Hotel Fire In Moscow City Center: Six Casualties

Arson was the reason.

On the evening of February 21, a building in which the MKM hotel is located caught fire in the centre of Moscow, TASS reported. The cause of the fire was arson, the news agency’s sources said.

Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that four adults and two children died in the fire. Another nine people were injured.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations told RIA Novosti earlier that firefighters evacuated 200 people from the building. 129 people and 43 pieces of equipment were involved in its extinguishing.

The fire was reported at 21:20. After the fire started, the residents of the hotel screamed from the windows and asked for help, Izvestia writes.

By the end of the day, firefighters managed to eliminate open burning, Izvestia was told in the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The area of the fire in the hotel was 300 square meters.

Previously, the fire occurred on the fifth floor of a 16-storey building, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. One of the residents set fire to his belongings in the corridor, writes the Baza Telegram channel. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters began to study the corridor on the fifth floor, the channel notes.

Residents of the house told Izvestia that they rented apartments on the floor where the fire broke out. According to them, when the fire started, the alarm went off. Because of this, the neighbours ran and banged on the doors, warning people of the danger.

The hotel is located at Mezhdunarodnaya Street in the centre of Moscow. The fire started in the part where the apartments of the former hostel were located, as the emergency services specified. The Prosecutor's Office has begun an investigation, the Moscow Online web portal was told.
