Homel Businessman Gives Apartments To His Relatives As Presents

The consequences were unexpected.

A Homel businessman donated apartments and parking spaces to relatives; this property was later sold. The Department of Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee considered the gift agreements fictitious, and the man’s actions were regarded as tax evasion, the press service of the State Control Committee reports.

“This entrepreneur, within the framework of an agreement with a construction organization, took part in the construction of a residential building. Upon completion of the project, three apartments and five parking spaces became his property. In order to avoid paying income tax when selling this property, the entrepreneur split up the properties by drawing up fictitious donation agreements for apartments and parking spaces to his close relatives. On their behalf, the Homel resident subsequently independently sold the property,” the department said.

Income from the sale of apartments and parking spaces amounted to over 600 thousand rubles. The State Control Committee believes that the amount of unpaid personal income tax exceeded 80 thousand rubles.

A criminal case has been initiated against the entrepreneur for significant tax evasion, despite the fact that “the damage caused to the state has been compensated to the budget in full.”
