Regime Lies About Number Of Ukrainian Refugees In Belarus

Most of them have left the country.

According to the results of the Gomel regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross, the figures for Ukrainians who have arrived in the region have been officially announced for the first time. Since the beginning of the Russian military aggression, since February 24, 3,151 citizens of Ukraine have entered the territory of Homel region, reported the state media on July 5, reports Flagstaff.

It is worth noting that a week before ONT TV channel quoted the following data in its propaganda report, citing the State Border Committee: 34.5 thousand citizens of Ukraine had crossed the Belarusian border since the beginning of the war. It claimed that "Gomel region remains the main place of accommodation of refugees and temporary migrants from the war zone".

Meanwhile, according to the official report of the Red Cross, there are "almost 400 refugees" in the Gomel region today.

The current authorities do not explain such gaps in figures and do not tell where and how many Ukrainian migrants left Belarus, and the Gomel region in particular. One can only judge this from some facts and messages in volunteer chats. It is known some families went to Russia, some refugees returned home because they could not get the necessary support in Belarus and find a job here (for example, the spouses from Mariupol shared their story), and many migrants went from Belarus to the countries of the European Union.

As a result, "about 200 people received special permits to work," says the ONT story. The Red Cross reports 1,312 Ukrainian migrants, including 351 children, received assistance from the organization during the entire period. Again, it does not specify what kind of assistance it was. Judging by the mass messages in volunteer chat rooms, it is the volunteers, ordinary residents, who help refugees with everything they need - food, medicine, clothes and furniture - at their own expense.
