Changes To Follow Announced Used Car History Database

A part of the data will be included in the state technical inspection database.

Belarus promises to launch a database on used cars in the third quarter of 2022. "Nasha Niva" has learned how this base will be replenished, how it can be useful for regular motorists and what innovations it will contain.

There are databases where you can get information about a used car's history in many countries of the world. It usually contains information about the car's mileage, number of owners, traffic incidents, being wanted, working in a taxi, etc.

At the moment, using various databases, it is possible to find out for free in Belarus: whether the car is wanted, the date of customs clearance, the period of validity of the permit to road traffic (technical inspection) and the period of validity of the insurance policy.

Therefore, in a sense, the database on the e-service portal will not be a new source, but rather will systematize the data already available in one place.

However, based on the statement of the director of the National Centre of Electronic Services, in addition to the information already available, Belarusians will have an opportunity to check the mileage of their car. Which is a very important aspect.

It is likely that the data regarding the mileage of the car will enter the database from the state inspection, as it is probably the only place where the owner of the vehicle is asked about the mileage.

The other place where car owners are asked about their vehicle's mileage are insurance companies. However, they consider it only if the car is taken for an accident damage evaluation.

Insurers pay attention to the mileage, as the level of car wear depends on this indicator, which in turn affects the amount of payouts.

Therefore, the introduction of the mileage database, which records the mileage at the time of inspection, may reduce the number of cases when experienced car owners adjust the mileage before going to the insurance expert.

However, there will be no mention of the car being involved in an accident in the database. It is possible that such functions will be added later, as accident data can also be organized into a single database if desired. In the USA every fact of applying to the insurance company is recorded in the database where it is possible to find out when this or that accident took place, what part of the car was damaged, etc.

Rather complete databases on cars' history are available in the countries close to Belarus. For example, in neighbouring Poland, there is a state service "History of Automobile".

After you enter the necessary data, you get lots of information about the history of your car - from the date of first car registration in the country until the date of inspection. Poles have been collecting data on vehicle mileage recorded during the vehicle inspection since 2014. And from 2020, data recorded during roadside checks have been added.
