Sugar Price Up by 40% Is Not a Record-High

What goods and services have gone up in price the most in Belarus?

Belstat has updated statistics on prices: they rose by 1.6% for a month, the annual increase was 16.8%. Food has added most of all to April inflation. It has risen by 3.9%, while services, on the contrary, have become cheaper (by 1.3%). Onliner examined what products one had to spend more on and what less.

Do you remember how sugar was allowed to become 40% more expensive? However, statistics showed that the most noticeable was the rise in price of cabbage: the new harvest has arrived and raised the price by almost 96%. Sugar added 41.5%, followed by apples (plus 33.7%), suddenly soda (plus 15%) and vegetables in general (plus 13%).

Food prices rose the most over the month, up 3.9%. In the same period, non-food items went up by 0.7%, and the cost of services even fell by 1.3%.

In the food sector, sugar prices showed the most noticeable increase - 41.6%. Vegetables are the next leaders in the price rise, which added 13.2% over the month. The cost of cereals and legumes rose by 5.6%. Among the products that have fallen in price in April is poultry (by 1.2%).

Among non-food products prices for petrol (3.7%) and construction materials (3.2%) grew the fastest. On the other hand, TV sets and synthetic detergents became more affordable. Their prices decreased by 4.6% and 7.6% respectively.

In April, the prices for public transport rose significantly compared to March - by 14%. Prices for communication services showed a slight increase - only 0.6%. On the other hand, travel services and airfare became significantly cheaper - 15.8% and 17.9%, respectively.
