Finance Minister Of Belarus Announces Upcoming Default

Lukashenka's official told how the authorities are bringing this moment closer.

Belarus "does not refuse to pay" for external obligations. Finance Minister Yury Seliverstau told the Belarus 1 TV channel about this.

At the same time, according to Seliverstau, "for various reasons (mainly sanctions), not all payments pass."

— We sent our payments, for example, to England to international organizations, but these payments were not made from the accounts of the National Bank. There are terms, there are resources. Tried and refused. Well, guys, then excuse me — we have money here in Belarusian rubles, — the minister said.

Seliverstau stressed that the situation with restrictions and the impossibility of settlements is aimed at Belarus declaring a default on external obligations. But "it won't be a big problem."

"I don't think there's anything to be afraid of. Those who did not want to work with us refused to do so even without declaring a default," Seliverstau assured.
