I Am Proud Of Being Belarusian
Natallia Radzina

We have a common enemy with the Ukrainians.

To be honest, I personally have not yet encountered hostility from Ukrainians or Poles due to the fact that I am Belarusian. Although I have heard and read a lot about such cases. What would I do if I faced this? First of all, for sure, I would have cursed, with all my disgust for foul language, which has only intensified recently. Because even I can’t contain such emotions.

Then I would ask: do these “fighters for justice” know what it means to fight for their country for 25 years, more than half of their lives, to be in prison, to work underground, to be expelled from the country and to continue working even in the most adverse conditions, without great support and clear prospects?

Do they know that today Belarus has turned into a concentration camp under occupation with thousands of political prisoners, which is already commanded not even by Belarusians, but by Russians and Chechens?

Do they know that even in such conditions there are people in the country (many people!) who risk their lives every day, but oppose the war and help Ukraine to the best of their ability?

Do they know that Belarusian volunteers are dying today defending Ukrainian cities often with their bare hands and without equipment?

Do they even realize (both Poles and Ukrainians) that they themselves are indirectly to blame for the current situation, because they did not hear numerous warnings from Belarusians that their beloved smuggling, trade and economic partner Lukashenka in the past is Putin’s puppet, and at any moment there could be an attack on Ukraine from the territory of Belarus?

Do they understand that it was necessary to call Belarusians to protests via all their channels at least two years earlier? That it was necessary to support the democratic forces of the country, and not turn a blind eye to the dictatorship, or kiss with Lukashenka, which every President of Ukraine did (Zelensky is no exception!)?

I understand that the answer to most questions is “no”.

So I am not at all ashamed that I am Belarusian.

I am proud to be Belarusian more than ever.

I love Ukrainians and do everything in my power to help them.

I know that we have a common enemy and that true friends will never betray.

I know that we will sustain, survive this and become a normal democratic country.

There are more and more opportunities for this. Both Putin and Lukashenka are actively digging their own graves today.

Together we will win!
