Warsaw, Vilnius, Minsk: Where ‘Football Night’ Will Cost Less

On November 20, the World Cup kicks off.

This time, the most important event in the life of those who are more or less interested in this sport will take place in Qatar. Few Belarusians could afford to fly to this country, so most of them will watch the game from TV screens in sports bars or sitting comfortably at home with a glass of popular foamy drink and a set of snacks.

The website Charter97.org decided to see how much a “football evening” would cost in Minsk, Vilnius and Warsaw. For ease of comparison, prices have been converted to euros.

Bar

Avid fans most often choose to watch a match with a company in some sports bar. In such establishments in Minsk, the average price tag for a glass of beer is 3.5 euros.

In the bars of Vilnius, a glass of beer will cost more — for half a liter you will have to pay about 4.2 euros.

The cheapest average price tag for beer is in the Polish capital — 3.2 euros.

Let's move on to snacks. Chicken wings are considered one of the most popular snacks to go with beer. In the establishments of Minsk, the average price for them is 10 euros.

In Vilnius, this fast food is offered for 6.5 euros.

And again it will be cheaper to sit in Warsaw — 4.5 euros for a box of wings.

A more satisfying snack in the form of a burger in Minsk will cost 11 euros.

In Vilnius, the average price is 8 euros.

In Warsaw, they offer a burger for about 8.5 euros.

Another popular snack is pizza. The Italian dish, which became famous thanks to the Americans, is today one of the most popular fast foods.

In the establishments in Minsk, the average price for a pizza is 7.5 euros.

In Vilnius bars, this popular dish is about half a euro more expensive.

And again, we see a lower price tag in Warsaw — 6.3 euros.

Takeaway food

For those who decide to watch the championship from home, food delivery services can be useful, which make it possible to get a dish at the right time and at any address.

Ordering a pizza home in Minsk will cost about 11 euros.

In Vilnius, pizza delivery costs about 13 euros.

And again, Warsaw turned out to be cheaper — about 8 euros for your favorite dish.

In the 90s, shawarma was a common food at train stations and clothing markets, and today the popularity of this dish can compete with pizza.

In Minsk, it will be delivered to your home for about 4.2 euros.

In Vilnius, the price tag varies around 5 euros.

In Warsaw, it can be ordered for less than 4 euros.

A budget option

For those who want to save money, the most profitable solution would be to buy everything necessary in advance at the store, and watch the tournament on TV screens. It should be noted that BT will not show the World Cup games this year, being under EU sanctions.

Beer in Minsk stores is sold quite cheaply — about 0.8 euros per half liter.

In Vilnius, a foamy drink will cost about 1.3 euros.

In Warsaw, beer prices are comparable to those in Minsk, but the choice is much wider. On average, for half a liter you will have to pay 0.8 euros.

If you want to buy crisps in Belarus, you will have to pay about 1.5 euros.

In Lithuania, they offer the same package for 1.85 euros.

And again it turned out to be cheaper in Poland — 1.24 euros per pack.

For 200 grams of crispy breaded peanuts in Minsk, you will have to pay 2.7 euros.

In Vilnius, it is almost twice cheaper — 1.6 euros.

A two-hundred-gram package of peanuts in Poland is approximately 1 euro.

Pizza can also be bought in advance at the store in the form of a semi-finished product and reheated at home.

In Minsk, a frozen pizza will cost 4.2 euros.

In Vilnius, they offer a similar product for 3.8 euros, and a promotional product is offered at a 25% discount — 2.8 euros.

In Warsaw, pizza again turned out to be cheaper — 2.4 euros.

Let’s summarize

As it turned out, the cheapest way to watch the main football tournament is offered by Warsaw. By the way, the Polish national team takes part in the World Cup in Qatar, and will play the first match against Mexico on November 22.

It is also worth considering the average salaries in Belarus, Lithuania and Poland. Going out to a bar for a resident of Vilnius or Warsaw will not be a serious blow to the wallet.

For those who choose watching games at home, it is worth noting that the assortment in Polish and Lithuanian stores is much wider than in Belarusian ones. The reason for this is the so-called counter-sanctions from the Lukashenka regime. Belarusians were deprived of the opportunity to buy Western products, and instead of them, analogues from the EAEU appeared on the shelves.
