Belarusian Railway Has Not Still Recovered from the Blow by ‘Cyber Partisans’

The attack took place on January 24.

The Belarusian Railway has not yet fully restored the operation of the online ticket booking system after a technical failure on January 24.

IBA Group was involved in the implementation of an improved integration IT platform for the Belarusian Railway.

Dev.by asked the company about the incident. In particular, we wanted to find out whether it was a real cyber-attack against the server, what the extent of the damage is, and whether IBA helps to restore the online system.

The journalists received the following response from the company:

- We provide support only for the functionality of the system that we have implemented in accordance with the support agreement. In particular, we are talking about the Travel Documents Sale System (TDSS). It is the duty of the customer to carry out support of the System Landscape for the Belarusian Railway’s systems operations. We have not received any requests regarding the TDSS functionality, so we cannot comment on the possible reasons for the failure in more detail.

The technical failure occurred on January 24. Only two days later, the Belarusian Railways restored online ticketing for trains with numbered seats and the operation of reference web resources. It is still impossible to buy unnumbered e-tickets for trains.

Previously, the Cyber Partisans reported the attack, servers and databases in break. The Cyber Partisans delivered an ultimatum for the authorities.
