BMZ Is Drowning in Debt

The salaries at the enterprise look ridiculous.

The Belarusian Metallurgical Plant (BMZ) was once the flagship of the Belarusian industry. And today it accounts for 20% of the production of enterprises of the Ministry of Industry. But the state of BMZ, to put it mildly, is deplorable: the holding's debts are estimated at billions of rubles, and the accumulated loss is 2.2 billion rubles. Because of this, the government has been forced for years to provide support, forgive interest on loans, and find new ways to revive the enterprise, euroradio.fm reports.

In July 2020, Prime Minister Raman Halouchanka again spoke about the importance of supporting BMZ and the need to optimize the company's costs. At the beginning of 2021, it became known about a "secret plan" to save the holding: the Ministry of Finance will take over the debts, and the banks will give out money for salaries.

Against the background of all this, it looks strange that BMZ is actively looking for new employees.

According to the state employment service, as of February 23, BMZ posted information on 42 open vacancies. Who is the company looking for and for what salaries?

Gas cutters are promised the least at BMZ - from 653 rubles a month, that is, about $ 250 at the current exchange rate. For comparison: at other enterprises, gas cutters can receive from 800-900 rubles.

Not much more is promised to the charge makers (from 700 rubles) and grinders (from 756 rubles). Let's compare: in other places, charge makers can receive from 800 rubles, and grinders - more than 1000 rubles.

The maximum salary from the declared ones is for a bulldozer driver (from 1100 rubles). Here, the offer is generally in line with that of other Belarusian enterprises.

Interestingly, BMZ is also looking for a correspondent, most likely for its corporate newspaper Metallurg. Apparently, the management of the holding does not consider it necessary to save money on it either.
