Belarus Hits the Bottom in the Ranking of Gasoline Availability in Europe

Gasoline is getting more expensive for the Belarusians.

Gasoline for Belarusians is becoming more expensive concerning their salaries, although the global market is still far away from the oil price ceiling.

RIA Rating made a new list, ranking the countries in Europe in terms of affordability of gasoline for the population. Belarus ranked penultimate, 31st place. Only the residents of war-stricken Ukraine have worse gasoline availability in Europe, thinktanks.by writes.

According to the rating compilers, the residents of Belarus can buy 628.6 litres of gasoline on an average salary. However, the price of gasoline in the country is relatively low. It proves low wages.

Luxembourg has doubled gasoline price compared to Belarus. Thus, one can buy 3,143.2 litres of gasoline there.

It is ironic, but Belarus was one of only three countries in Europe, where gasoline prices haven't dropped in 2020 (due to oil price drop), but have risen. The oil price increase in the country for RON 95 was 2.3%. Meanwhile, the decline in gasoline prices, for example, in Slovenia, was 21.7%.

Belarus is one of only two countries in Europe with price growth of diesel fuel since early 2000. Belarus has set a European record with an increase of 2.3%.

For example, Estonia lowed the price of diesel fuel by 22.7% at that time.

According to the rating, residents of Luxembourg (3,143.2 litres), Norway (2,746) and Austria (2,465) can buy the largest amount of gasoline on their average monthly wages.

In 2019 and 2020, Belarus ranked 29th.

In 2018, Belarus was 25th out of 33 countries in terms of gasoline availability in Europe.
