Citizen Lukashenka Committed High Treason
ANDREI SANNIKOV

He should be immediately detained.

Andrei Sannikov, leader of the European Belarus civil campaign and presidential candidate in 2010, made a statement after Lukashenka had signed "union agreements" with Russia. The politician posted the statement on his Facebook page.

"Today, citizen Lukashenka, having no legal grounds, not being elected to the highest post in the state and not being representative of the Belarusian people, has signed a document on giving Belarus up to a foreign state in a creeping way. By doing so, he committed high treason and should be immediately taken into custody and put on trial under Belarusian law.

Lukashenka is also accused of crimes against humanity, for which he will be convicted by an international court.

It is surprising that Russian president V. Putin, a lawyer by education, has seen fit to make an illegal deal with the impostor accused of grave crimes, thus confirming that relations between the two countries are not interstate, but criminal.

V. Putin has repeatedly said that the choice must be made by the people of Belarus. The people made that choice long ago by depriving Lukashenka of the right to represent our country and by speaking out in favor of new, fair elections of the leadership of Belarus, so no backroom deals will be recognized, and citizens will have the legal right to fight the occupiers by any means.

The international community should firmly express its attitude to the creeping occupation of Belarus and not hide behind expressions of concern. The toleration of democratic countries towards dictator Lukashenka for years has resulted in unprecedented repression within Belarus and the creation of tension on the borders of the European Union.

The danger to Europe has only increased with the signing of the occupation documents.

It is time to understand that no admonitions are effective against dictators. Defending the independence of Belarus today is equal to paving the way for new aggressions in Europe," wrote Andrei Sannikov
