Angela Merkel Confirms Upcoming Meeting with Sviatlana Tsukhanovskaya

The German Chancellor expressed her admiration for the courage of Belarusian women.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed the upcoming meeting with the former presidential candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, reports TASS.

"Soon I will meet with the opposition member Tsikhanouskaya," said the German head on Wednesday, speaking in the Bundestag during the debate on the federal budget for 2021. Merkel stressed her admiration for the courage of women who take to the streets of Belarusian cities.

Merkel also stated that Germany supported the initiation of a national dialogue in Belarus without outside interference; Berlin does not recognize the results of the presidential elections. "At the upcoming EU summit, we will also talk about relations with Belarus. We do not recognize Lukashenka's election, we urge him to start a dialogue with his people without interference from the West or East," Merkel said.

Earlier Reuters referring to the assistant and press secretary of Sviatlana Tskihanouskaya, Anna Krasulina, informed that Tsikhanouskaya would visit Berlin on October 5-6. On Tuesday, Tsikhanovskaya said in an interview with Radio France Internationale that she intended to meet with Merkel next week, and the audience was already "scheduled". She informed that "she also plans a series of other meetings in Europe, some of them will be held online and some in-person".

It will be recalled that yesterday Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with French President Emmanuel Macron.
