Don’t Call Sasha Anymore
Iryna Khalip

Only together until we win.

- Hi, can Sasha join us?

- Sasha won't come out. Children, go home.

This is a summary of the activities of the Coordination Council. They enjoyed holding meetings for a while and decided to negotiate with the Administration of Sasha 3%. But nobody talked to them there. The next day, one initiated a criminal case against these silly children for them not to distract grown-ups from important things.

I believe that all those who entered this strange and clumsy structure are wonderful people. But they have made some fatal mistakes.

First, they announced that they wanted a dialogue and the authorities were ready for a dialogue. In favour of this statement, many of them (especially those compassionate) claimed that negotiations with terrorists might be accepted to free hostages. Negotiations with terrorists - yes. But the dialogue with terrorists is quite different. It is a cup of tea in a hijacked building. It's a porcelain set that peacefully ding-dongs among the bodies. It's a crisp napkin, carefully wiping bloodstains on the table. Besides, it's not the hostages who negotiate with terrorists. Negotiations are conducted by those standing outside. Because the terrorist wants to get a million dollars and a plane not from hostages.

Hostages are a thing, a small coin. One does not talk to them. At best, negotiations can result in permission to go to the bathroom once more. By the way, the terrorist doesn't deliver any demands at all. He takes hostages just for fun. And he kills them just for fun.

Secondly, good people sell fictions for some reason. They call Lukashenka "acting president," declare the validity of his powers until November 5 and the right to participate in elections. That is, instead of resignation - two and a half months of legitimacy and a generous offer to participate in elections. Is it surprising that he immediately used the "powers" and ordered to initiate a criminal case against the Coordinating Council?

Thirdly, failed to take into account or forget? Any bureaucracy kills protests. The imitation of heavy activity, reports and the complete alienation of society from those who decided to engage in bureaucratic activities near the barricades begin.

"The Coordinating Council has elected a praesidium."

It makes the jaws go numb of those who have escaped from the hell of torture, and those who were lucky enough not to get there. Because further developments are easy to predict. The Coordinating Council has elected an audit committee. The Coordinating Council heard the speaker. The Coordinating Council has elected a commissioner. The Coordinating Council held a general meeting. This can be stretched out for several years. It's shadowboxing. Only the people who had applauded the new initiative two days ago, today burst with anger: "Who do they represent? Who gave them the right to speak on behalf of the people? I would have never supported the cockroach's participation in elections!"

And the final fourth point. It's the key one. Those always fail who want to change the people's will, not the power. (Lukashenko, being booed by workers today and sent to hell is the best proof). Taking the responsibility to represent the people, the new bureaucratic structure has immediately forgotten about the people's demands. The major of them is Lukashenka's resignation. Retirement, not powers until November 5, with subsequent participation in elections! People do not forgive such a thing. They are too sensitive to deception. They are ready to sacrifice their lives - and many have already done that - for the freedom of their country. But no one will go to the square to defend the criminal's right to stay in Drazdy. No one will defend those who try to give the criminal that right, either.

Those who have called themselves the Coordinating Council need to understand and remember this. Do you know why Lukashenka has initiated a criminal case right now? Because all of them have already fulfilled their function for him and are no longer needed. They've done more than Vakulchik and Karaev: they called him the president, gave him powers and the right to participate in future elections. That's what he expected from them. Now he can easily throw them away. Or in jail. The fiddler is not needed.

Sasha three-percent feels someone else's weakness very well. When the coordinating council flinched and began to make bows with hearts (perhaps with best intentions) out of the rigid wording of popular demands - he immediately took advantage of it. But we must stand together to survive. If the whole country does not defend our common demands - Lukashenka's immediate resignation, the release of political prisoners and elections (without him, of course) - by November 5, the country will choke on blood. Not only ours but also the blood of the Coordinating Council. Stand together until we win. And don't call Sasha anymore.
