Andrius Kubilius: Most Belarusians Demand Changes, And This Means The End Of Lukashenka's Regime
ANDRIUS KUBILIUS

Belarus deserves a new future.

The head of the Euronest delegation, former Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius made a statement after Viktar Babaryka and Valer Tsepkala were denied registration.

Charter97.org quotes the translation of the text of Andrius Kubilius' statement:

- Let me once again express my solidarity with the people of Belarus. Belarus is living in a moment of change and needs our solidarity.

Today's decision of the Central Election Commission not to register the leading opposition candidates Babaryka and Tsepkala has stolen the presidential elections from the people of Belarus.

One can steal presidential candidates and elections, but one cannot deprive people of the need for change. Most Belarusians demand changes, and this means the end of the regime of Lukashenka, who does not understand the will of the absolute majority of the Belarusian people.

On August 9, the people of Belarus will have an opportunity to come and vote against Lukashenka's regime. The new leadership will have the opportunity to organize immediate democratic and free presidential and parliamentary elections, as well as a referendum on the return of the 1994 Constitution to the people of Belarus.

The actions of Lukashenka and his regime will have consequences. The European Union will not tolerate political prisoners in Belarus; the EU will not tolerate torturing in prison the innocent people who want a better future for European Belarus.

The European Union will not tolerate constant harassment and repression of independent media, bloggers, civil society organizations, entrepreneurs, activists and people of culture, art or politics.

Belarus without Lukashenka, free from dictatorship, deserves a better future in the European family. It deserves the European path of change. Belarus deserves a new future, without repression and political prisoners.

Let us say loudly together: Long Live Belarus!
