Siarhei Tsikhanouski: I'm Proud To Be Belarusian
Siarhei Tsikhanouski

The People's Blogger wrote a letter to a pensioner whom he met at a picket in Hrodna.

Hrodna resident Halina has received a letter from blogger Siarhei Tsikhanouski. The national blogger remembers the woman from the meeting in Hrodna and promises to visit her, Radio Svaboda reports.

Who is Halina?

81-year-old Hrodna resident, Associate Professor, Veteran of Labor Halina Andreichyk became famous throughout the country when she gave a touching interview to Siarhei Tsikhanouski in Hrodna on May 29.

"I remember our meeting often."

In mid-June, Halina wrote a letter to Tsikhanouski to the pre-trial detention center, telling him who she was, reminded about the meeting in Hrodna. Almost a month later, on July 10, she received a reply written on July 1.

Siarhei confessed that Halina's letter "moved him to tears". He said that on July 1 he first received the letters, 62 of them altogether. Among them was the letter of the pensioner from Hrodna.

"I remember our meeting, being in the detention center. I'm very glad that you have written and the letter got into my hands. First of all, I ask you to take care of your health, because I promise to come to your house, as you wanted, and meet your sons," - Tsikhanouski writes at the beginning of the letter.

He adds that perhaps his wife, Sviatlana, will also be happy to get acquainted with the Hrodna resident.

"You exaggerate my merits a little. It is not my merit or yours that it is heroic to say the truth in Belarus. You are also exaggerating the merit of my mother in my upbringing. Of course, she did not teach me bad things. My standpoint is more like my own inner decision, belief, rather than the result of my upbringing," - Tsikhanouski writes.

He adds that in his gymnasium, as a child, the motto was: "Hurry up for good Deeds!"

"Take care of yourself and do not worry. It's a pleasure to meet you. When I meet people like you, I am proud to be a Belarusian", - Siarhei Tsikhanouski finishes his letter.
