“Elections” cannot be held during an epidemic. The trial of criminals will happen inevitably.

Lukashenka’s “chamber” has appointed the “presidential election” in Belarus on August 9. All this happens against the background of a sharp deterioration in the situation with the coronavirus epidemic in Belarus. Independent experts say that about one million people have been infected with COVID-19 in Belarus, the number of deaths being several thousand.

Coordinator of the European Belarus civil campaign Dzmitry Bandarenka comments on the situation with the “elections” during the epidemic in Belarus for Charter97.org.

- The Belarusian power is demonstrating its criminal nature. We know that in a number of civilized countries elections have been postponed to a later date. Everything is being done so as not to endanger the lives of people.

It is beneficial for the ruling clique in Belarus that, at a time when Belarusians are literally preoccupied with survival, there is an easy way to continue their powers and usurp power.

It is known from history that German Nazis and Japanese war criminals in the occupied territories conducted experiments with biological weapons on prisoners of war and prisoners of concentration camps. Dr. Josef Mengele is known, who became the personification of criminal experiments, when they purposefully infected prisoners of the camps (including children), and observed what would happen to them.

Lukashenka acts in exactly the same way as that fascist Mengele. Only unlike the German Nazis and Japanese war criminals, he conducts experiments on his own population and on a much larger scale.

The Belarusian authorities refuse to comply with the recommendations of the United Nations and the World Health Organization, which recommended the cancellation of mass events, and introduction of a quarantine.

Lukashenka and his accomplices do the opposite - they hold a parade and announce the so-called election campaign at the peak of the epidemic. Today, we can definitely speak about the signs of genocide in Belarus. To protect their own lives, Belarusians have the right to any action.

Today, a number of countries have made legal claims to the PRC government for criminally withholding information about the coronavirus epidemic, which led to numerous deaths and enormous economic damage. Lukashenka not only hides information from the citizens of Belarus, but also pursues a planned policy for their mass infection, which has already led to a huge number of deaths.

- What is the state of the power and the society in Belarus in view of the upcoming “election”?

- The authorities are using the so-called election to try to divert attention from mass deaths, which are no longer possible to hide. Many experts say that about one million people are infected with the coronavirus in Belarus. We know that the statistics in all countries are approximately the same and if so many people become infected, at least 20 thousand people will die. We can already say that several thousand people died in Belarus.

A huge blow was inflicted on the Belarusian healthcare system. Thousands of physicians are infected with the coronavirus, many of them have died. It will be very difficult to make up for these losses, and the consequences will be long-term.

The active part of the Belarusian society has shown sanity and the ability to self-organize. We know that the idea of People’s Quarantine arose precisely from below and was supported by opposition leaders. Belarusians strongly resist the crazy actions of the authorities, and when Lukashenka declared May 1 a school day, 95% of Belarusian parents did not let their children go to school.

People intuitively understand that today Lukashenka acts in the same way as the German Nazis and their allies during the Second World War in relation to the civilian population. With all their prudence and caution, Belarusians are beginning to actively resist those who are trying to physically destroy them. This has happened more than once in our history.

- During the “parliamentary elections” last year, Belarusian bloggers raised the question “what is next?” Is there an answer to this question today?

- In the coming month, during the height of the epidemic in our country, we need to protect the health and lives of our families, friends and relatives as much as possible. Especially - people of the older generation.

Therefore, we need to boycott all kinds of initiatives of the authorities that put people's lives at risk - parades, subbotniks, and the so-called elections.

Next, collective action is needed as part of a campaign of civil disobedience to dictatorship. The international community and laws will be on the side of Belarusians: the regime has shown its criminal nature to the whole world. If earlier we heard that “the dictatorship in Belarus is quite soft, there are no mass killings, as under other regimes,” today it is absolutely clear that the actions of the authorities and their inaction (for example, non-introduction of quarantine) led to thousands and thousands of deaths.

Understanding the threat to lives, Belarusians can apply for their protection the methods that are necessary in this situation: boycott of criminal orders and regime measures, tax evasion, strikes, “Italian strikes” in case a regular strike is impossible, preparing mass protests during the period when the epidemic will decline, collecting information about the regime’s crimes.

Due to the fact that Lukashenka dared for the massacre of the population of Belarus, he should be removed from power as soon as possible - within a few months.

- Are there any healthy forces in Belarus that could take such a responsibility?

- In our country there are enough courageous people who can lead protests and enter the Government of National Salvation.

Earlier, representatives of the opposition, civil society and independent journalists came under the main blow. We were fired from work, expelled from universities, we went to prisons, and our leaders were killed. Today, Lukashenka unleashed a direct war against the majority of Belarusians.

One of the goals of the authorities in this election campaign is to try to involve as many people as possible in crimes that fall under the definition of genocide. Falsification of elections is one thing, participation in genocide is another. This should be understood by everyone, from officials of the highest rank to teachers who will be drawn to election commissions.

However, the situation is such that those whom Lukashenka wants to make executioners themselves automatically become victims. The military, police, factory directors, priests, officials and teachers are dying. Outbreaks of illness begin precisely after the actions of the authorities - refusal of quarantine measures, calls to come to churches, parade rehearsals, subbotniks.

Those in power and those who want to be drawn into these criminal actions already understand that they themselves are at risk. We see the spontaneous actions of Belarusians in self-defense, the degree of indignation of the Belarusian society by the actions of the authorities is enormous. All this gives reason to believe that Lukashenka’s plans will fail.

Today, the absolute majority of the population, including a part of the power structures, who realized that Lukashenka is mortally dangerous to them, have joined the regime. Some officials are already sabotaging the orders of the regime, and are capable of opposing the narrow group that organized the genocide.

It seems to me that setting a date for the “presidential election” will accelerate all processes in Belarus, and the denouement will come this summer. Lukashenka will be removed from power for organizing massacres and an international trial will take place over the dictator and his accomplices.
